Is there any tent-camping available? There is no tent camping available at Camp Wahsega (the Race Start/Finish), however there is primitive camping in the national forest. Keep in mind, that you only get the onsite hot showers, beds, and the meals if you are getting the whole festival package with the bunkhouses.
Do you need volunteers? Yes! The first 10 people to sign up to volunteer will be reimbursed the entire $100 weekend festival cost after their shift..so if you don't want to race but you want be there for the party, volunteer! Volunteers are asked for approximately 8 hours of time throughout the entire weekend. If you aren't staying the weekend but would like to volunteer, please come to the Friday evening check-in or show up Saturday morning and we'll give you a job to do and send you home with schwag afterwards! Sorry, Fool's Gold racers are not eligible.
Is there a course map? In an effort to create the most fun route with the most singletrack, we will be running two loops of 50 miles that will include lots of sweet singletrack with connecting gravel roads. The link to the 2007 route map can be found above. The 2007 course was actually a bit long, so we will be shortening it this year. Stay tuned.
I don't want to sign up for the festival, what do I get for my race-only entry fee? You will get a challenging course with well-stocked SAGs, a hot post-race meal, and you're welcome to hang out for the post-race festivities (band, beers, schwag, etc.)
What do I get with the festival fee? 2 nights of lodging in the bunkhouses (you don't have to deal with bringing camping supplies and pitching a tent, a hotel in Dahlonega would run you at least $160 for 2 nights..not to mention the hotels are at least a 20 min. drive away from the race start/finish), you get free local beers all weekend from Sweetwater & Terrapin, dinner friday, 3 hot meals on saturday, hot breakfast on sunday, entertainment (band after the race), cool schwag and prizes all weekend, hot showers, pre-built campfires, and a weekend to hang with your fellow mtbr's...all without having to leave the start/finish area. Don't forget, the races start EARLY on Saturday morning and might end late for some folks on Saturday. You'll thank yourself for staying on-site.
Are Pets Allowed? No pets are not allowed at Camp Wahsega during the event. Pets are not permitted in the bunkhouses. Pets ARE permitted at SAG stops, and anywhere offsite from Camp Wahsega. Sorry about this, we love dogs too.
What are the rules for support? Racers can only be supported by other racers or support personal at aid stations. There is no support allowed from non- racers or friends and family jumping from aid station to aid station. This rule is in place to
limit a potential traffic overload on the Forest system roads. If you would like to support someone you can support everyone!!!
SAG Stations and Drop Bags When you check-in on Friday, you will receive 3 large ziploc bags in which you can place your personal items that you want to send to up to 3 SAG stops. Keep in mind that SAG 2 & 3 are the same, and SAG 5 is Camp Wahsega (the Start/Finish point). Also keep in mind the 100 mile racers are doing 2 loops, so you will visit the same SAG stations twice.
